Welcome!
First blog post on a brand new website… so no pressure then!
I plan to use this blog to document my journey, and no doubt talk about some of the things that got me to where I am now. But in this moment, I really feel quite overwhelmed. That’s the truth of it. So I’m going to try and keep it fairly short and sweet for now.
I love writing. If I didn’t, I’d never have had the motivation and sheer single-mindedness to sit down and write a novel with no goal in mind other than just that: to write it.
When I sat down to write my book, most days I couldn’t look at the screen for extended periods of time. I wrote my first book with pen and paper. My epilepsy medication regime meant I’d often not stop feeling dizzy until lunchtime. I would know the story, but not the word I was looking for. That feeling you get when something is on the tip of your tongue, and it just won’t come out? Yeah, that - but regularly through the day…. whilst trying to write a book.
All of that is still true today. Losing words, vision disturbances, dizziness, I live with it all every day. And for a long time, the internal narrator that lives in my brain lied to me, but I believed what it said.
I’m not capable.
Brain damage means weakened, stupid.
I should give up.
I shouldn’t have started in the first place.
My biggest hope by launching this website, is that it might help me connect with more people who need to hear the message that when that narrator tries to derail you, DO NOT LET IT.
Only by starting is there a chance of progression.
Only by persevering is there a chance of finishing.
Brain damage can mean strength, not weakness; can mean finding new ways to be creative, not stupid.
YOU ARE CAPABLE.
Thanks for joining me on my journey. I don’t know exactly where I’ll end up, but I’m glad to be on the road.
